16. Audio

Blogging for this Thing:  Use at least one of these apps and create an audio recording (real or fake doesn’t matter, just play with the tool). Write a blog post about what you think about the app and how you may be able to use it personally or professionally. If you know of another app that would fit under this Thing, tell us about it in your blog, too.

I downloaded the ipadio app.  This is an app whose home is in the United Kingdom.  When we record from our phone and the recording is sent to the cloud, the user is responsible for the phone charges.  I am not rolling the dice to see if the cloud storage for ipadio is in the United States or if it is in the United Kingdom.  I don't want any surprise international charges on my phone.  It appears there is some advantage to educational organizations as a school, so I will dig around for further information.  An audio app would be helpful for our world language students to be able to leave their audio of them speaking the language they are learning on a cloud service for the teacher to listen to at a later time and be able to grade the spoken word.
SoundCloud does only allow you to record 120 minutes of recordings with a free account, but you can upgrade for as little as $6/month if you find this system is something you really want to use. I don't need to create yet another account for something that has minimal usefulness (2 hrs).  I will wait for other services to become available in the future.

Mobile devices have microphones and you can use those microphones to record audio. You could record book reviews or have kids or teens record them. You could start a library podcast. You could interview an author to promote an upcoming event. There are a lot of things you could do with audio. Here are a few different apps to explore.

audioboo iconAudioboo: Apple / Android

Audioboo is a very simple application where one can record up to three minutes of audio. Recordings (called “Boos” in Audioboo) can be shared via Audioboo, Facebook, Twitter, and more, and you can also find and follow other people within the app.

ipadioipadio: Apple / Android

No, this isn’t an app for Target (though there is a Target app if you are in desperate need of it). This is the app for ipadio, a very easy way to record audio via your device or a telephone. For each recording you make, you can record up to 60 minutes of audio and then add titles, descriptions, images, and geo-locate your recording before it is instantly uploaded to your ipadio account, and, if you want, also posted on multiple social media accounts.

soundcloudSoundCloud: Apple / Android

SoundCloud is a huge social sound platform, with over ten hours of music & audio posted every minute. Hear new music, comedy, news, podcasts and record your own. Record audio with one touch and easily share it to Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Tumblr, and more.
